Anthem
One night I stood at my table
Candles were lighting up the dark
I looked into my book
I felt a holy spark
I look up at my children
The looked back at me and I said
A blessing upon you all
A blessing upon you head
I thought I saw my savta
A generation maybe two past
Like her I wear a silken robe
Mine is tied up to last
Our eldest sits to my left
My husband sits on my right
I hold our glass high
I wish my savta good night
The wine is dark as memory
The bread is warm and white
I speak the ancient words aloud
That carry us through night
My daughter mouths them with me now
She nearly knows them all
How soon passing the light comes
How gently we stand tall
The candles lean together
As if they too would pray
I think of all the tables lit
On every Shabbat day
A chain of light through centuries
Each candle a life and a name
And here we add our little light
To join that dancing flame
My son asks why we do this
His eyes are dark and bright
I tell him we remember
By doing, every Sabbath night
The answer is the ritual
The meaning is the act
To live inside the question
Is how we keep the pact
When I am savta someday
When my memory grows thin
I hope a grandchild looks at me
And quietly lets me in
To their table, to their candles
To words I taught them well
A blessing passed from hand to hand
The oldest tale to tell
Bittersweet Bridge
This world? It's a narrow bridge
Such a narrow bridge
A very narrow bridge
This world? It's a narrow bridge
A very narrow bridge
And the main thing to recall
Is not to fear
No
Not to fear at all
You can forget everything else
But this recall
NEVER FEAR AT ALL
JERUSALEM WHEN I SIN
A ball and chain called pop culture
Pretends to change the system from within
Maybe this works in the Matrix
But even there nothing really changes
In Jerusalem when I sin
Some are guided by oracles or architects
Others by a strangeness deep within
Some are guided by keymakers or radio on XM
But nothing ever changes
In Jerusalem when I sin
Sometimes I know I’m a sucker
With a mind that’s rice paper thin
Even then, though, nothing can stop me
From trying to change
In Jerusalem when I sin
A ghost in the machine keeps whispering
That the walls were built from within
Maybe this works in the desert
But even the sand keeps shifting
In Jerusalem when I sin
Some are guided by prophets or patterns
Others by the noise of the wind
Some are guided by memory or madness
But the city stays holy
In Jerusalem when I sin
JUST THINK ABOUT IT
Trombetsky called out on the street
Dear God can you help me?
It’s taken years and I now need to leep
Dear God can you help me?
He talks on and tries to stay on track
He tries but t’aint easy
He starts to whistle while walking the street
It’s tuneless not breezy
He yells “think twice!”
I’ve been ejected from Paradise
I’ve paid a price
But for you it’s just a normal day in Paradise
He calls out to my Dad on the street
In Ke Far Med Oo Ah
I am here and I’m not complete
In Ke Far Med Oo Ah
He yells “Think twice!”
I’ve been ejected from Paradise
I’ve paid my price
But for you it’s just another day in Paradise
[Bridge]
Nu, dear God is there nothing anybody can do
Please, dear God, there must be something someone can say
Trombetsky has lines on his face
We all know that he’s been there
Driving his hippie van to every place
But never fitting in there
Please yell “Think twice!”
Or you’ll be ejected from Paradise
Nu! Think twice!
For us it’s just another day in Paradise
Please yell “Think twice!”
Or you’ll be ejected from Paradise
Nu! Think twice!
For us it’s just another day in Paradise
Please yell “Think twice!”
Or you’ll be ejected from Paradise
Nu! Think twice!
For us it’s just another day in Paradise
Please yell “Think twice!”
Or you’ll be ejected from Paradise
Nu! Think twice!
For us it’s just another day in Paradise
Please yell “Think twice!”
Or you’ll be ejected from Paradise
Nu! Think twice!
For us it’s just another day in Paradise
Let The Star Shine In
When the Moon shines bright above
When I see three stars
Something stirs deep in me
I know rest is not far
This is the dawning of the age of Shabbat
Age of Shabbat
Shabbat?
Shabbat!
Melodies and understanding
Attachment and trust surrond me
No more falsehoods or derisions
I have living dreams of visions
Weekly mystic revelation
And my soul’s true liberation
Shabbat?
Shabbat!
When the Moon shines bright above
When I see three stars
Something stirs deep in me
I know rest is not far
This is the dawning of the age of Shabbat
Age of Shabbat
Shabbat? Shabbat!
Shabbat? Shabbat!
[chorus]
Let the star shine in, let the star shine in,
The star shine in
Let the star shine, let the star shine in,
The star shine in
Let the star shine, let the star shine in,
The star shine in
[verse]
Oh, let it shine, c'mon
It shines brighter when you sing along
Let the star shine in
Open up your heart and let it shine on in
When you are lonely, let it shine on
Open up your heart and let it shine on in
When you feel like you've been mistreated
And your friends turn away
Just open your heart, and shine it on in
[chorus]
(You've got to feel it)
Let the star shine (You've got to feel it)
Let the star shine in
(Ahh, open up your heart and let it shine on in)
The star shine in (And let me tell you one thing)
Let the star shine
(I want you to sing in the 4th Dimension)
Let the star shine in (Hey, open up your heart)
The star shine in
Let the star shine (Let it shine)
Let the star shine in (Everyday)
The star shine in (Hey, you got to feel it)
Let the star shine (You got to feel it)
Let the star shine in (When you open up your heart)
The star shine in (You gotta let the star shine in)
Protocol
I am the people
I live in a country
With mighty missles
That reach for the sky
I am the woman
I give birth to children
Time is still marching
They don’t need to die
All who see me
All who break bread with me
Share in the freedom
I feel when I cry
I am the woman
I give nirth to protest
Against all that is eveil
And all that is bad
We are the people
Who sign the petitions
Tired and angry
That we’ve all been had
And all who see us
And all who know us
Share the emotion
We feel when we’re mad
I can’t be sure
You are the Messiah
I’ve heard that before
I’ll hear it again
But standing here
I am now reminded
Of what Hillel said
If not now, when?
I can’t be sure
You are the Messiah
I’ve heard that before
I’ll hear it again
But standing here
I am now reminded
Of what Hillel said
If not now, when?
That’s How I Go To Shabbat
If I love myself enough
I will follow my soul
That’s how I go to Shabbat
That’s how I go to Shabbat
If I love myself enough
I will define my role
That’s how I go to Shabbat
That’s how I go to Shabbat
I now know how to be my own friend
It’s not just a beginning it’s also an end
So please stop by and find me here
This is the place where I give up on fear
That’s why I go to Shabbat
That’s why I go to Shabbat
So my insanity ends today
To end it I’ve not found a better way
That’s why I go to Shabbat
That’s why I go to Shabbat
I can hardly wait
You know I’ll keep this date
That’s why I go to Shabbat
That’s why I go to Shabbat
To my Queen I will speak and let her know
I can rest, relax, learn and let her go
And thank her for her time
And for teaching me this new rhyme
That’s why I go to Shabbat
That’s why I go to Shabbat
The Words Get In The Way
I realise it’s something in my head
I realise it’s something I’ve not said
This is not my best side
It’s something I prefer to hide from you
Just know that there is something in my mind
It holds me tight and won’t let me unwind
I don’t wanna break your heart in two
But I don’t know what I can say to you
Mere words get in my way
They put me on display
So I stay locked deep inside
Can you look behind my eyes
And take it all away?
I don’t want to make you cry
I don’t want to say goodbye
I want to say I love you
But mere words get in the way
My heart resides locked behind a City door
A place I don’t know there can help me restore
And this is really hurting me
I know I need to set us free
Mere words get in my way
They put me on display
So I stay locked deep inside
Can you look behind my eyes
And take it all away?
I am now about to cry
I’m a coward and I won’t say goodbye
Just know that I love you
But mere words get in my way
I can’t say I love you because I cannot stay
I am now about to cry
I’m a coward and won’t say goodbye
Just know that I love you
But mere words get in my way
I can’t say I love you because I cannot stay
The Corners of A Mind
I don’t know, I don’t know
I’ve been like this a couple of years
I’ve bent a few years
Why don’t I know?
Here I sit, there they wait
Maybe it’s too late
But I’m gonna try
I know I am, I know I am
Oy, I don’t know,
I don’t know
Am I ever going to know
What I never knew before?
I don’t know, I don’t know
I’ve been like this a couple of years
I’ve bent a few years
Why don’t I know?
Here I sit, there they wait
Maybe it’s too late
But I’m gonna try
I know I am, I know I am
Oy, I don’t know,
I don’t know
Am I ever going to know
What I never knew before?
But wait — I think I do
I think I always knew
It was hiding in the fear
Of all these wasted years
Here I stand, they can wait
It was never too late
And I tried God, I tried,
God, I tried
Oh, I know now
I know now
I finally come to know
What I always knew before
The City
I shall tell now of a city
How it finally came undone
By the constant acts of brainless twits
Taking place from sun to sun
It was cut down swiftly
In the middle of its prime
When Voices from Heaven proclaimed
Finally!
It is time!!
There came from the city an horrendous cry
Moaning everywhere
Everyone asking
Finally!
Dear God... Why?!
Came a voice from the Heavens
Twas a sad reply
You stand there and complain?
Your faces pointed high!
What have you done with the powers that we gave?
Nothing We can see
Other than dig your grave
Lust led you to war
War led you to bleed
We tried
We tried
We tried
We tried
You wouldn’t heed!
A bird headed back
It’s mission now complete
It flew through the Heavens
With the greatest of speed
It continued to climb
At a fantastic rate
Till finally it approached the Holy Gate
It is now done, Master, with tears it did say
With them in the city below we have finally had our way
Urban and suburban
Both now were dead
The city folk thought in their many languages
What Heaven before had said
But by then Adam’s Children
Had finally relinquished their reign
What once belonged to God
Became God’s again
Prelude
It has been so many years
We have shed so many tears
Is not the time now right my lord
For humanity to be restored?
It’s the year in which we all strive
It’s a struggle to survive
The time is right for I do fear
If not soon the end is near
Let us see my friend, Ben David
Are humans truly deserve ed
I Admit freely here
I no less than you have shed a tear
I will send my messenger there
Let it see from the air
How much is craved redemption
Or perhaps they prefer much oppression?
And so the dove left its place
To see for itself the human race
When it got back? It was in awe
Of all the horror that it saw
It reported I forsee it’s now or never
If I don’t leave will they ever
Understand what role they play
I forsee the end of days
Yet this is not up to them!
It’s not part of our plan
We must decide or lose the chance
Do we play the tune or do we dance?
So the decision was made
Humans will get all our aid
We can no longer be passive
The help we give must be massive
And the bird spoke:
Master! It said
The world down there?
It’s all but dead
It suffers from a great infection
And my fear? There is no injection
Any role we play
Must cast human will away
It suffers from a great infection
And my fear? There is no injection
Any role we play
Must cast human will away
We must cast free will aside
Let them by us finally abide
We must cast free will aside
Let them by us finally abide
A Cold Wind
Hush all you children
And how do you dare cry?
The world still lives
It simply won’t die
God is in charge
Now and forever
The wind blows hard
Yes and the wind blows fast
It chills the body
For awhile ths cold will last
War is over
Now and forever
The faithful say that there is
A tree of life
It grows any place
There is sufficient light
Watch it get taller
Now and forever
Too late my friends
Too late but we tried
For us it is now over
Now and forever
The rivers still run deep
And the oceans still run wide
No shore is no longer distant
Now and forever
The mountains still stand
Through the thunder and rain
The stone holds its silence
Now and forever
Children will grow tall
Into women and men
The cycle of life continues
Now and forever
The stars burn above
Through the darkest of nights
Their fire keeps shining
Now and forever
The old will tell stories
Of battles lost and long done
The young barely listen
Now and forever
When the final harvest comes in
When the long summer finally fades
The bread feeds the hungry
Now and forever
We bury our dead
In the cool of the earth
Their names easily forgotten
Now and forever
The candle burns low
But its light fills the room
Love finally outlasts darkness
Now and forever
